    Job Description

    An exciting opportunity has arisen to run and expand the work of Caring Hands, a Christian-run Day Centre in Chatham catering for 100 people every weekday. Caring Hands aims to support people in time of crisis, help them identify coping mechanisms and enable people to flourish in confidence and get back into the workplace. Caring Hands in the Community is a working project of Kings Church Medway. We seek a well-organised, practical manager with a heart to help people through a homelessness crisis.

    You will have experience in leading a team of staff and volunteers in a thriving, caring and happy environment. You are able to demonstrate strong planning and delegation skills.

    You will be highly motivated about improving the wellbeing, housing and life opportunities for homeless people, and want to enable lives to be transformed. You will demonstrate a belief in the potential of every individual and an understanding of the importance of our community in helping an individual achieve their potential.

    You will have day-to-day responsibility for the organisation and smoothrunning of the Day Centre, its guest management, the kitchen and all facilities, staff and volunteer recruitment, training and discipline, safeguarding, and overall health and safety on site.

    You will be happy to be the public face of the charity to local schools, community groups and businesses in order to increase understanding, motivate donations and raise our profile.

    You’ll be instrumental in shaping service delivery, fostering continuous improvement, and making a positive, lasting difference in the lives of those we support.

     

    KEY TASKS AND DUTIES

    • Ability to cope with difficult guests, and calmly manage occasional incidents in the Centre, while ensuring that robust support plans are created through the Outcomes Star for Home to support and monitor positive progression

    • Ability to set priorities and accomplish the smooth-running of the Day Centre five days a week

    • Work closely with the Development Manager to identify strategic funding needs, obtaining quotes and evidence of needs where necessary.

       

    • Lead by example to champion Christian values, be respectful and compassionate. Manage and motivate staff and volunteers and support through relevant training in close liaison with the Operations Director, manage the budget for the Day Centre and be responsible for record-keeping.

    • Ensure that effective Safeguarding systems are in place and maintained, acting as the organisation’s Designated Safeguarding Person, with delegated responsibility for policy development, implementation, and reporting.

    • Manage health and safety responsibilities throughout the Centre

    • Manage stock rotation of donations, and purchase of food and cleaning items

    • Represent Caring Hands in the Community to the general public, community groups, schools and grant-funders, acting as an advocate and giving persuasive reasons to support us.

    • Liaise with other charities, partner companies and emergency services

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Essential:

    1. Experience of supporting homeless people with mental health, substance misuse, domestic violence, challenging behaviours, offending behaviour in a social care environment, including safeguarding practices, professional boundaries, and person-centred support.

    2. A practising Christian*

    3. Experience of managing a team

    4. Experience of managing in a challenging environment

    5. Full driving licence with at least 2 years’ incident-free experience

    6. Good written English and maths skills and MS Office software skills

      Desirable:

    7. Knowledge of building safety and maintenance

    8. Familiarity with In-form client management system and Outcomes Star for Home.

    9. Knowledge and understanding of strength-based practice and trauma-informed care.

    10. Lived experience of homelessness
