Who is Jesus?

"Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me". - John 14:6

Jesus Christ rightly stands at the very centre of our faith. We regard Him as our Saviour, Lord and King and owe Him more than we could ever repay.

There is confirmation from multiple non-christian historical writings that a little over 2000 years ago, Jesus of Nazareth lived, preached and was crucified. During His ministry, He never travelled over 200 miles away from His place of birth; yet today His name is known worldwide, and globally His teachings are still transforming lives.

Find out below who we believe He is, and the reason for the hope that is within us.

WHOLLY GOD

& FULLY MAN

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." - John 1:1-5, 14

In the above verses, we read that Jesus, called the Word of God, both was with and was God, and that through Him all things were made. Jesus is God.

However, we also read that "the Word became flesh" - this speaks of the time recorded in the New Testament of the Bible when Jesus walked the earth. Jesus was a man.

OUR SAVIOR

As God, He is worthy of our devotion, our admiration, our worship and all that we are. Yet as a man, He received from mankind persecution, mockery, torture and ultimately crucifixion. Our reaction to Jesus directly reflects our attitude to God, just as it did then. Yet even when Jesus was betrayed, beaten and murdered, He still cried out, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

Salvation - the forgiveness of sin and eternal life -  is open to everyone, no matter what you've done or who you are, because Jesus died for all. He was the Sacrificial Lamb, spotless and pure, sent by God to pay the price for the sins of the world.
